Osun Chiefs Officially Announce Ooni’s Death

The death of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade has been formally announced by traditional rulers in Osun State.

This was made known on Wednesday afternoon in the state after a brief meeting with the state governor in Osogbo, the state capital.

On Monday, the Obawara of Iwara-Ife, Oba Layi Adereti, had told journalists that the official proclamation of the demise of Ooni would be made on Wednesday, August 12.

He had also disclosed that the Oro festival in Ile-Ife was part of the final rite of passage for first class monarch.

According to him, the official pronouncement of the demise of Ooni would be done between 9am and 4pm.

Before now, the traditional rulers had denied reports that the Ooni was dead, claiming he was still alive. This was after his demise broke on social and traditional media.
