Controversy Trails Ooni’s Death

There is anxiety in the ancient town of Ife in Osun State over the reported demise of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuade, Olubuse II.

On Tuesday evening, news hit town that the first class monarch and the spiritual head of the Yoruba race, had passed away in a London hospital.

But the Royal Traditional Council, RTC, of the town said on Wednesday that the Ooni is alive and not dead as being widely reported in the media.

The chiefs addressed newsmen on Wednesday at the palace, debunking the viral report on the purported death of Sijuade.

Spokesman of the chiefs, Oba Jeseph Ijaodola, told journalists at the House of Chiefs, located within the premises of Ile-Oodua palace of the Ooni that the Ooni is alive.

He said, ‘The Ooni is not dead and we want to debunk media reports that he has passed on.’
