Wike Can’t Probe Amaechi—Rivers APC

Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has stressed that the governor of the state, Nyesom Wike, does not have the capacity to investigate the immediate past administration of Rotimi Amaechi.

The party, in a statement issued on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, the state capital, said Wike does not have the moral right to probe Amaechi because he (Wike) once served under the former governor.

Rivers APC said the governor can never be a judge in his own case.

The party noted that based on its findings from the people of Rivers State, the ‘probe is targeted at Amaechi, his supporters and associates.’

It was queried if Wike can exhaustively investigate all the items listed in the panel’s terms of reference without recourse to certain events and processes that may date as far back as the first term of Amaechi, when Nyesom Wike served as Chief of Staff.

What about the process for the acquisition, compensation and sale of Abonnema Waterfront started when Wike was Chief of Staff? The party further asked.

The party recalled the major objection the PDP went to court to canvass against the Prof Odinkalu-chaired judicial panel of enquiry Amaechi raise to probe political killings in Rivers State, where it was claimed that Amaechi could not be a judge in his own matter.

Rivers APC said ‘following that argument, Wike cannot raise a panel to probe activities of government that he was, to some extent, part of.’
