President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed support for the emergence of Senator Bukola Saraki as the Senate President and Yakubu Dogara as Speaker of the House of Representatives on Tuesday.

Buhari, in a statement issued in Abuja by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, described the elections of the key principal officers of the National Assembly on Tuesday as “constitutional”.

The President noted that “he would have preferred the new leaders to have emerged through the process established by the party (All Progressives Congress, APC)”, but notwithstanding, he accepts the outcome.

Adesina said even though “Buhari had said in an earlier statement that he did not have any preferred candidate for the Senate and the House of Representatives, and that he was willing to work with whoever the lawmakers elected,” his “sentiment still stands.”
