Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has begun investigations into the administration of his predecessor and perceived political enemy, Rotimi Amaechi.

Addressing Permanent Secretaries in the state on Tuesday, the governor ordered them to produce full account details of their ministries’ expenditure in the last 18 months. The meeting was held at the Government House in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

Wike expressed regret over the role played by some civil servants in the state in the tail end of the last government. He charged them to remain neutral as stipulated by the Civil Service rule, urging the Permanent Secretaries to shun partisan politics.

The governor said some of them helped Amaechi to illegally withdraw funds from the state government treasury up to a day before his swearing-in ceremony.

In his words, he said, “The government was coming to a close and some of you were busy signing cheques on 26, 27 and 28 of May. On 28 of May, the Transition Committee called most of you and you refused to cooperate because they told you I will not be sworn-in.”

He then said, “I want full details and print out of every ministry’s account in the last 18 months. I will not accept any handover note without an accompanying account details.”
