632 Senior Cops Promoted

More than 600 senior officers of the Nigeria Police have been elevated by the Police Service Commission, PSC.

A statement issued in Abuja on Friday by the Commission’s Head, Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, noted that the decision to promote the affected officers was taken at the 11th plenary meeting of PSC, which was presided over by the Chairman, Mike Okiro, a retired Inspector-General of Police.

Ani disclosed that the PSC approved the promotion of 632 senior police officers in line with its constitutional mandate.

A breakdown of the promotion shows that 460 Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASPs, were promoted to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP, while 172 officers on the rank of DSP were elevated to the rank of Superintendent of Police, SP.

It was disclosed that the beneficiaries were found worthy to have satisfied the Commission’s criteria for promotion which includes maturity on a rank, absence of pending disciplinary matter, merit and vacancy availability.

Their promotions take effect from March 12, 2015.

“Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Okiro enjoined the officers to see their promotion as a necessary impetus to redouble their efforts in the service of the nation. He charged them to work within the rule of law and with the fear of God,” Ani said in the statement.
