Senate Okays Justice Mohammed As CJN

The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Justice Mahmud Mohammed as the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN.

His appointment was approved by members of the upper chamber of the National Assembly on Tuesday, following a request by President Goodluck Jonathan on that effect.

Jonathan had written a letter to the parliament asking the legislators to confirm the appointment of the Justice as CJN.

After answering questions from some members of the Senate, David Mark, the Senate President, expressed confidence in Justice’s Mohammed’s ability to perform and take the judiciary to a greater height.

Mark stressed the importance of the judiciary as a tier of government in democracy. He noted that the judiciary performs the vital role of stabilising the society and democracy.

Justice Mohammed will replace the outgoing Justice Aloma Muhktar.
