Nigerian Army Reclaims Chibok

The Nigerian troops have recaptured Chibok town in Borno State after members of Boko Haram took over the remote town on Thursday.

The insurgents stormed the town on Thursday and chased out Nigerian security forces. Chibok is the hometown of over 200 schoolgirls kidnapped by the militant Islamic sect in April 2014.

The girls are yet to be released by the group, which claimed the girls have been married off.

Spokesman of the Army Division in Maiduguri, Borno State, and Deputy Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Usman, noted that the Nigerian military chased away the insurgents from Chibok.

Usman said Chibok town is presently under the control of the Nigerian government.

“Troops of 7 Division Nigerian Army have recaptured Chibok town in Borno State from Boko Haram terrorists since yesterday (Saturday).

“The military is still carrying out mopping up operations in the surrounding environment. Chibok town is now fully secured,” Usman reportedly said.
