President Goodluck Jonathan has held a closed-door meeting with the Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi. The secret meeting took place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday.
Both parties are meeting again for the second time after President Jonathan suspended Sanusi as Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, in February 2014. They first met in July 2014 during a break of fast with the President at this year’s Ramadan.
Going by information scooped by our reporter, Jonathan and Sanusi met on Thursday to nurture their relationship and to also assure each other that their then ‘fight’ is now behind them and have forgiven each other.
Sanusi, while as the CBN boss, accused the Federal Government of being corrupt, while the President later suspended him over allegations of financial recklessness.
The former CBN boss then took the government to court, challenging his removal. His tenure was to expire four months before his suspension.
He was later announced by the Kano State government as the new Emir of Kano, after the demise of the previous occupier. A protest erupted in Kano after his announcement as the new Emir, which forced the government to beef up security in the ancient city. Initially, he could not get into the palace until he allegedly begged the President to allow him gain access to the palace.
