Jonathan Reshuffles Cabinet

Following the resignation of seven Ministers from his government, President Goodluck Jonathan, on Wednesday, reshuffled his cabinet to fill the vacant positions left by the departing Ministers.

The President restructured his administration at the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

With the reorganisation, the Minister of Defence, Aliyu Guasu, will now combine his job with the office of Minister of State for Defence, which was occupied by Musiliu Obanikoro, who is eying the Lagos governorship seat in 2015.

Also, the Minister of State 2 for Foreign Affairs, Nurudeen Mohammed, will for now be the Supervising Minister of Information until a substantive Minister is appointed, while the Minister of State 1 for Foreign Affairs, Prof Viola Onwuliri, is to take over as the substantive Minister of State for Education.

The Minister of Special Duties, Taminu Turaki, has been asked to supervise the Ministry of Labour and Productivity, while the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Dr Stephen Oru, will join the responsibilities of Minister of State for Niger Delta to his.

Olusegun Aganga, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Olusegun Aganga, will also be the Minister of State for Industry, Trade and Investment.

Last week, Maku, Obanikoro, Samuel Ortom, Emeka Wogu, Nyesom Wike, Darius Ishaku and Onyebuchi Chukwu resigned from office as Ministers to pursue their political ambitions.
