Obanikoro, Maku, Others Leave Jonathan’s Cabinet

Following a directive by President Goodluck Jonathan that any member of his administration nursing a political ambition ahead of the 2015 general elections in Nigeria should resign from office on or before Monday, October 20, 2014, seven members of his cabinet have quit office.

On Wednesday, seven Ministers in Jonathan’s cabinet resigned their appointments to enable them pursue their political ambitions in their respective states.

The affected persons are Ministers of Information, Labaran Maku; State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro; Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu; State for Education, Nyesom Wike; Trade and Industry, Samuel Ortom; Labour, Emeka Wogu; and State for Niger Delta, Dairus Ishaku.

Obanikoro is believed to be nursing the desire to contest in the Lagos gubernatorial election in 2015 under the platform of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, just as Onyebuchi, who is reported to have been endorsed as the consensus governorship candidate of the PDP in Ebonyi State.
