Epileptic Power Supply Responsible For WASSCE Mass Failure—Lawmaker

A legislator from Lagos State has said that the epileptic power supply in Nigeria is the main cause of the recent mass failure recorded in the 2014 West African Secondary School Certificate, WASSCE, which held few months ago.

In the released results, only 31.28 percent of candidates who sat for the examination obtained credits in five subjects, including English and Mathematics.

Speaking over the weekend in Lagos, Yomi Ogunusi, a lawmaker representing Ifako-Ijiaye constituency in the House of Representatives, disclosed that the candidates would have performed well if the power supply in Nigeria was stable.

He said the bad power situation is discouraging many students to study hard for exams.

The lawmaker, who presented scholarships to about 100 secondary school students in his constituency, urged the government to ensure stable power supply in the country, which he says would be beneficial to all.

He charged the beneficiaries to ensure academic excellence in their endeavours.
