FG Bans Use Of Non-Revenue Staff As Tax Collectors

The Federal Government has directed that henceforth, non-revenue officials should no longer be used by federal and state tax agencies for collection of taxes.

This decision was reached at the National Economic Council, NEC, meeting presided over by the Vice President, Namadi Sambo.

It would be recalled that the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, MAN, had complained of multiple taxation across the federation, stating that this was affecting the country’s economy. This prompted the government to set up a ministerial committee to look into the matter and make recommendations.

The committee informed NEC that the manufacturers had a valid point, and suggested that only authorised revenue officials should collect taxes henceforth.

The governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, who briefed State House Correspondents after the meeting, said the issue was becoming worrisome for the government, which necessitated the directive.
