A Nigerian nurse who was among those that treated the Liberian infected with the Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, has died.
Nigeria’s Minister of Health, Prof Onyebuchi Chukwu, in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, confirmed the development.
“Yesterday (Tuesday), 5th August, 2014, the first known Nigerian to die of the EVD was recorded, and this was one of the nurses that attended to the Liberian,” the Minister said.
The Liberian, Patrick Sawyer, died of Ebola in Lagos two weeks ago. He was the first case of Ebola sufferer in Nigeria. He died shortly arriving Lagos on a flight from Liberia with symptoms of the disease.
