FG Promises Scholarship To Chibok Girls

The Federal Government has vowed to offer scholarship to the secondary schoolgirls abducted by members of Boko Haram on April 15, 2014 in Borno State.

The young girls were kidnapped at the dormitory in Government Girls Secondary School. GGSS, Chibok, Borno and have been in captivity since then. However, some of them escaped shortly after they were taken to the bush by the terrorist group.

Speaking on Monday when Pakistani girl-child activist, Malala Yousafzai, paid him a courtesy visit at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, President Goodluck Jonathan stated that the scholarships will be given to both the escapees and those still in captivity. He added that the scholarship will enable the girls complete their education in any part of Nigeria.

Malala, who turned 17 on Monday, visited Nigeria to advocate the release of the over 200 students abducted schoolgirls, as well as support girls’ education in the country.

Speaking with journalists after the meeting, Malala revealed that, “I am here in Nigeria on my 17th birthday for a prize which is to see that every child goes to school. This year, my objective is to speak up for my Nigerian sisters, about 200 of them who are under the abduction of Boko Haram and I met the President, Goodluck Jonathan, for this purpose.

“I conveyed the voice of my sisters who are out of school or who are still under the abduction of Boko Haram and for those girls who escaped from the abduction but still do not have education. And in the meeting, I highlighted the same issues which the girls and their parents told me in the past two days.

“The President will be willing to meet with the parents of the Chibok girls today (Monday). The families are eager to meet with anyone that can help them.”
