Fayose Emerges Ekiti Governor-Elect

The Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ekiti State, Peter Ayodele Fayose, as winner of Saturday’s poll.

The electoral body made the announcement around 4:25am on Sunday, declaring that the former governor of the state scored the highest number of votes in all the 16 local governments in the state.

INEC said Fayose polled a total of 203,090 votes to defeat the incumbent governor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Kayode Fayemi, who scored 120,433 votes.

The candidate of the Labour Party, Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, raked 18,135 votes, according to the announcement.

INEC said Fayose polled 56.34 per cent of the total votes cast, while Fayemi picked 33.41 per cent.

The news was greeted with wild jubilation in the morning in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
