No Impeachment Plot Against Amaechi–PDP

Following an allegation made by the Rivers State government that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was planning to remove the state governor, Rotimi Amaechi, through an impeachment, the party, via its state chapter, has played such down and stated that there’s no iota of truth in it, also expressing worries why Amaechi is even afraid of such if he truly claims to be “clean”.

Reacting to the allegation through a statement issued by Special Adviser to the party Chairman in the state, Felix Obuah, on Media, Jerry Needam, it was disclosed that the PDP was more concerned in pressing issues than impeaching the governor.

It added that the PDP was getting itself in making sure the party wins at the next poll in the state and throw out the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State.

The statement also disclosed that, “the PDP wonders why a government that claims to have a clean hand, without even an iota of corruption, should be expressing fears of possible impeachment of its principal head, the governor. To set the records straight, the PDP emphasises, that at no time had it conceived, nurtured and expressed such intention to impeach the governor, neither does it intend to attack him in whatever guise.”

The PDP alleged that the state government of shifting the attention of the people from core issues of corruption and financial recklessness characterising the Amaechi administration including the current crisis rocking the state judiciary, which he (the governor) has stubbornly trampled on the relevant constitutional provisions by disrespecting the directive of the National Judicial Council (NJC) on the appointment of a Chief Judge for the state.
