Rapists Should Die--Confab Proposes

Delegates at the ongoing National Conference have recommended death penalty to rapists of minor. They also proposed a life sentence to other rapists.

At the plenary on Thursday in Abuja, venue of the Conference, the delegates were unanimous in their decision, and expressed hopes in the reduction of the cankerworm.

This decision was reached while reviewing the report submitted by the Conference Committee on Civil Society, Labour, Youths and Sports, which was chaired by Bola Ogunrinade.

Rape in Nigeria is on the increase lately and the society still stigmatise victims, which has made it difficult for rape cases to be reported to the appropriate authorities. The police have also been blamed for the way they handle cases of rape in the country.
