Prostitution Is Forcing Me Into Politics—KSB

When the roll call of top gospel artistes in Nigeria are called, no doubt, the name, Kenny Saint Best, formerly known as Kenny Saint Brown (KSB) will surely not be missing.

Apart from being a gospel artiste, KSB is also an influential figure in the music industry in Nigeria, thanks to the respect her elder brother, Kenny Ogungbe commands in the entertainment industry. Kenny is presently the General Manager of Raypower FM and he is at the helms of affairs at Kennis Music, where KSB is the Vice-President of the outfit.

KSB, as some may not know, apart from music, has special love for cooking. Little wonder she floated a canteen few years ago, where she delivers meals to people on demand. For those who have tasted her meals, several good testimonies abound on how magical she is when it comes to handling the spoons and pots.

The Ogun State-born singer is also known to be an activist, who is fearless and is ready to speak, no matter who is involved.

Wande Coal and Don Jazzy cannot quickly forget her stand on the ‘Go Low’ music video they released in 2012. KSB lampooned the duo for promoting nudity in the work.

And to probably have a good ground to fight this growing trend of nudity and prostitution in the society, KSB has decided to go into politics.

She recently revealed in an interview with ThisDay that one of her reasons for delving into the murky waters of Nigerian politics is, according to her, to see “that every girl that comes out to hustle on the street at night should have a privilege to become a better citizen, and be given the privilege of better productivity in the areas of what they can do to improve their lives apart from prostitution.”

She said, “What I see in my local government (Onigbongbo, Lagos), especially the Opebi axis where I reside baffles me. The rise of prostitution has gone up by almost 1000%, it never used to be this bad. Back then, you can count the number of girls you see on one hand, but now especially at that Peka’s junction it seems like a trailer comes to offload them for the night from 7pm.

“It looks like the street is pulling them more and more all because of money, and what they do depreciates humanity.

“I think there can be a change, something can be introduced to these girls and let them know that there’s a gift on the inside of them that can improve their personality and make money with their body by working hard without having to dehumanise themselves.”
