NUPENG Shelves Planned Strike

The planned industrial action by members of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas, NUPENG, for Wednesday has been put on hold, Comrade Igwe Achese, President of the group has disclosed.

Achese noted that the decision was to give room for negotiations over the lingering leadership tussle in the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, IPMAN, which has almost ruined the association.

Speaking with newsmen on Tuesday afternoon in Abuja, the NUPENG boss stated that members of the union have been urged to ignore the earlier directive that they should embark on a strike.

However, he stressed that the suspension does not mean that it has soft-pedalled on the issue, warning that NUPENG might rescinds its decision to call off the industrial action.

Achese pointed out that the union is committed to protect the interest of its members who constitute the majority of IPMAN’s workforce.

NUPENG is fighting IPMAN due to the latter’s failure of IPMAN to implement a 2009 agreement.
