Obasanjo Shuns Meeting With Jonathan

The issue of Boko Haram may soon be over going by a resolve of former Nigerian leaders to put all hands on deck to tackle the menace.

At a meeting held on Thursday night at the Presidential Villa in Abuja with President Goodluck Jonathan, it was gathered that the rescue of the more than 250 students of Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno, was extensively discussed and the past nation’s heads of state agreed to work with the President for their safe return and also end insurgency in the country.

The schoolgirls were abducted on April 15, 2014 at their dormitory by some gunmen and have since not been released by the abductors.

At Thursday’s meeting, Yakubu Gowon, Shehu Shagari, Muhammadu Buhari, Ernest Shonekan, and Abdulsalami Abubakar were present, while Olusegun Obasanjo and Ibrahim Babangida were absent. Also, Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State was at the meeting, which lasted for about one hour.

Though no reason was given for Obasanjo’s absence, but it was learnt that IBB could not make the meeting due to the death of Senator Kuta, a lawmaker representing his Senatorial District at the National Assembly, who died on Thursday.
