New Emir, Sanusi Lamido Escapes Arrest In Kano

Reports have it that there was an attempt by forces of the Federal Government to arrest the newly appointed Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, at his official residence in Kano on Sunday. The former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, was announced as the occupier of the exalted seat by the Kano State government on Sunday evening. This followed the demise of Ado Bayero, the former Emir who died on Friday in Kano.

According to reports, it took effort of the state government to sneak the new Emir out of his house to the Government House in Kano, where he passed the night. This was after the state government received an intelligence report that some security operatives would effect an arrest on Sanusi.

“It is true his royal highness did not sleep in his house after information came that there are moves to arrest him for reasons we don’t know,” a source was quoted to have disclosed, adding that, “the governor had to arrange for him to be smuggled into the Government House where he passed the night.”

Sanusi was suspended as CBN Governor in February 2014 by President Goodluck Jonathan over allegation of financial recklessness.

Meanwhile, the new Emir will be turbaned later today.
