No Plan To Name UI After Akunyili—FG

The Federal Government has reacted to rumours making the rounds that it was planning to rename the University of Ibadan, Oyo State, after the late former Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, Dora Akunyili, who died on Saturday morning in India.

The former Minister of Information and Communications died at a Specialist Cancer Hospital, India, where she was flown to few weeks ago for treatment.

Reacting to the rumour on Sunday, spokesman to President Goodluck Jonathan, Reuben Abati, disclosed that nobody ever said the President was contemplating on naming the premier higher institution after the late Professor and described it as fake news.

“Nobody ever said Mr President is considering naming University of Ibadan after Late Professor Dora Akunyili. Please ignore fake news,” Abati said.

“On Dora Akunyili, there is an official statement conveying President Jonathan’s heartfelt condolences. We stand by that statement,” he added.
