Major streets of Kano have been occupied by violent demonstrators who are kicking against the emergence of Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the new Emir of Kano.
The former CBN Governor was named as the new Emir by the state government on Sunday, following the demise of Ado Bayero, who passed away on Friday in Kano after an undisclosed illness.
The angry protesters have blocked major streets of the ancient city and have continued to attack those they believe are supporters of the new monarch. They have also created bonfires on the streets of Kano, demanding the reversal of the announcement of Sanusi as the Emir of Kano.
Meanwhile, security has been beefed up in Kano.
