My Presence In Chibok Won't Rescue The Girls–Jonathan

President of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has disclosed that his presence in Chibok, where some secondary school girls were abducted on April 15 in Borno State by terrorists, will not ensure their freedom from captivity.

Jonathan, while answering questions from newsmen in Paris, France, where he attended a security summit in the French capital on Saturday, noted that all what his government is particular about is the safe rescue of the over 200 kidnapped girls.

According to him, since the girls were not being held in the school in Chibok, it would be unnecessary for him to visit the town, noting that some officials had already done that.

“These girls are not held in Chibok. Sometime, people want the President to go to Chibok. If the President goes to Chibok today, it does not solve any problem. The problem facing the President and indeed the Nigerian government is how to get these girls from wherever they are,” Jonathan said in Paris on Saturday.

Last Friday, the President was reportedly scheduled to visit the town before heading to France, but this did not happen.

However, one of his aides stressed that Jonathan had never planned to visit the town as widely reported in both local and international media, including Aproko247.
