Fani Kayode Meets Jonathan, Dumps APC For PDP

Former Minister of Aviation under ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration, Femi Fani-Kayode, has returned to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, a party he earlier dumped for the opposition, the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The social critic and public affairs analyst met with President Goodluck Jonathan at the Presidential Villa, in Abuja, on Tuesday, where both politicians discussed behind closed-doors.

Speaking to State House correspondents after his visit to Jonathan, Fani Kayode explained that, “every single person in this country that is a Nigerian is entitled to come here (Aso Rock) from time to time, when the doors are open to come and pay their respect to the wonderful people that are here. As a Nigerian I have done that today and I’m delighted to be here.”

Addressing the newsmen on his possible return to the ruling party, Fan-Kayode pointed out that, “the step that I will take will be made known to Nigerians at the right time. The most important thing and I think you are fully aware of this is that I cannot and I will not be associated with a situation whereby any group of people is promoting a religion above another.”

Speaking on the rumoured plan by the APC to field a Muslim/Muslim ticket for the 2015 presidential election, he said, “I think all of us have gone past the stage of  religious politics in this country. We must treat the Muslim community with utmost respect and we must treat Christian community in the same way and even the non-religious.”

However, few hours after Fani-Kayode’s visit, Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Doyin Okupe, took to twitter to write, “I welcome bro ffk (Femi Fani-Kayode) to God’s vineyard. I hv never felt more complete politically dan I feel 2day. knew God ll remove all His frm d sinking ship.”

“Egbon @realffk I’m glad that what we discussed has materialized. My joy knows no bound. You never belonged with then. Welcome back home,” another aide to Jonathan on New Media, Reno Omokri, wrote on the same platform.

The decision of Fani-Kayode to return to the PDP may come as a surprise to many followers of the political happenings in Nigeria. This is because the vocal politician has often openly attacked some policies of President Jonathan.
