Ecobank Fights Pipeline Vandalism

One of Nigeria’s financial institutions, Ecobank Nigeria, has thrown its full weight behind the fight against oil pipeline vandalism in Nigeria, which has become a big headache to the Nigerian government and the security agencies in the country.

The respected bank recently donated two Hilux vehicles to the Pipelines and Product Marketing Company, PPMC, in Warri, Delta State. The PPMC is a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.

Speaking at the presentation, Ecobank, in a statement, said the gesture was made as part of its effort to support the fight against pipeline vandalism in the Niger Delta region.

The Managing Director, Ecobank Nigeria, Jibril Aku, who was represented at the event by the Executive Director, South-South/South-East region of the bank, Kingsley Umadia, noted that there’s the need for sustained efforts to stem the growing activities of oil pipeline vandals because of the negative effect vandalism has on the Nigerian economy.

“Vandalism is totally unacceptable. People suffer unduly during fuel crisis and same with the economy,“ the Ecobank boss observed, assuring that, “we will continue to do whatever we can to support PPMC in this fight.”

He added that the donation was in line with the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility, CSR, policy to contribute and make meaningful impact in its host environment.

Responding, the Managing Director, PPMC, Haruna Momoh, also represented by the Executive Director, Operations, Engr Emmanuel Wowo, commended Ecobank for the donation, stating that it would go a long way in assisting the company in pipeline surveillance and repairs on timely basis.
