Court Stops Toll Collection On Lekki-Ikoyi Bridge

A Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, has ordered the Lagos State government to stop the collection of any toll or tariff on the Lekki-Ikoyi suspension bridge. The bridge was recently opened for public use by the state governor, Babatunde Fashola.

In its judgement, the court ruled that since the project was done by the state government, using the state fund, without any fund from any private investor, it was illegal to collect toll on the bridge.

It was gathered that the only document presented by the state government to justify its action was the private partnership law, which could not convince the court to rule in its (Lagos government) favour.

The Lagos State government was taken to court to stop it from collecting toll from motorists plying the road.
