Rivers Crisis: House May Consider State Police–Zakari

Spokesman of the House of Representatives, Zakari Mohammed, has disclosed that the ‘green chamber’ may have to revisit the issue of state police, which has been clamoured for by some Nigerians. Zakari made this known to newsmen while addressing them on the recent crisis in Rivers State.

According to him, most developed countries in the world have embraced state policing as a way of combating crime and reducing crisis. He explained that with such in place in Nigeria, crime will definitely be reduced drastically.

‘State policing will enable police officers to curb crime because they are already familiar with the terrain and residents of the state,’ Zakari told journalists at the press briefing.

He promised that the House will revisit the matter and do a thorough job on it.
