The Nigerian Army has disclosed that it is ready to release over 160 terrorism suspects to their respective states. The Director of Defence Information, Maj-Gen Chris Olukolade, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Abuja.

Olukolade said that the decision to release the terror suspects was in line with the directive by the Presidency. He also said that the suspects were arrested during military operations in the North-East states under emergency rule; Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States.

“Of the number, 157 are from facilities in Borno, nine from Yobe and one suspect from Adamawa,” the statement said, adding that, “more suspects in this category are also to benefit in the present exercise. The suspects will be released to their respective state governments.”

Olukolade revealed that the suspects to benefit from this gesture were those earlier recommended for release by the Joint Investigation Team, JIT, set up by the Defence Headquarters in 2013.
