Why Lagos Celebrated New Year In Darkness–Minister

The Minister of Power, Professor Chinedu Nebo, has explained why residents of Lagos celebrated the New Year festival in darkness. Nebo, while giving reasons for this, said that the recent activities of vandals on the Escravos Lagos (western axis) gas pipeline, was largely responsible for the shortage of power supply to residents of the state.

The Minister made this known on Thursday in a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Mrs Kande Daniel. Nebo assured that his ministry is making effort to alleviate the sufferings of Lagosians caused by the erratic electricity supply.

He expressed his regrets over the sad situation and promised that repair work should be completed on the affected gas pipelines before the end of January.

Nebo disclosed that Lagos received a maximum load of 816MW on December 29, 2013, which is less than the required minimum of 1,000MW.

Some areas in Lagos experienced a total power outage on New Year day, while others had an epileptic power supply.
