Fuel To Still Sell At N97 Per Litre In 2014–FG

The Federal Government has stated that the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, will still remain at N97 per litre. A statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, on Thursday in Abuja, allayed the fears of Nigerians that the FG plans to hike the price of fuel in 2014.

The statement, signed by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Danladi Kifasi, described the speculations as unfounded.

“It is equally important to state that neither the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources nor any of its parastatal is under any instruction to activate a new pump price regime as being speculated,” Kifasi declared in the statement.

He therefore appealed to oil marketers to “refrain from the hoarding of petroleum products and the general public from panic buying in anticipation of any increase in pump price” warning that the “relevant agencies of government, including the Department of Petroleum Resources and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, have been directed to deal with offenders.”

Kifasi also assured Nigerians that there is enough fuel supply for 2014. He further warned petroleum product marketers to stop causing panic in the system by creating any scarcity.
