In President Goodluck Jonathan’s New Year message to the nation, he stated that 1.6million jobs were created in 2013 in Nigeria by his administration. The President also disclosed that his ‘Transformation Agenda’ has been yielding the needed ‘economic growth’ to boost the standard of living of Nigerians.
But for one Fedrick Onuigbo, he never felt the impact of all the sweet talks of the President, hence, his decision to take his life. However, his action may have further plunged his family into more economic hardships.
As gathered, Onuigbo, who has seven children, was faced with an ejection threat from his landlord in Gwarimpa area of Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city.
It was further learnt that the deceased, whose mother’s corpse is reportedly lying in the mortuary, recently lost his business and had the bank calling on him to repay the loan he took. We gathered that he has been unable to provide food for his family.
On Monday, December 23, 2013, Onuigbo, in the early hours of the day, left his home and set himself ablaze behind the NNPC Petrol Station at Gwaripa, Abuja.
His family members have been thrown into mourning since then. They wondered why the deceased would end his life that way.
