Man Docked For Beating Neighbour

A man identified as Ifeanyi Chukwu who lives in Lagos was arraigned on Thursday before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting one of his neighbours.

Chukwu, 34, was said to have used a padlock to hit his neighbour, one Chibuzor Ubachukwu, in the eye over an argument that ensued between them due to parking space and caused the victim to suffer an injury to his eye in the process. The incident was said to have occurred at about 2am on April 5, 2016.

Both men reportedly live in the same compound located at No. 11, Ojoafeje Street, Sari Iganmu, Lagos.

The accused is now facing a two-count charge of assault.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Gabriel Ekundayo, told the court that the accused also rained blows on the complainant an action he said contravened Sections 170 and 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. However, Chukwu pleaded not guilty.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs M.I. Dan-Oni, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

Dan-Oni said the surety ‎must be blood relation of the accused gainfully employed and should provide evidence of tax payments and adjourned the case till April 21 for mention.
