Suarez's Bite On Chiellini Was A Casual Play–Lawyer Argues

Alejandro Balbi, lawyer of Uruguayan striker, Luis Suarez, has defended his client who was accused of biting Italian defender, Giorgio Chiellini, on the shoulder in his side’s 1-0 victory in their final Group D match at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Balbi, who is also a member of the Uruguayan FA, told a local Uruguayan radio that the matter has been blown out of proportion due to jealousy. He blamed this on both England and Italy, who were both booted out of the World Cup by Uruguay.

The lawyer disclosed that a defense is on the way, arguing that the bite was “absolutely (a) casual play”.

“We don’t have any doubts that this has happened because it’s Suarez and secondly because Italy was eliminated,” he said, alleging that, “there’s a lot of pressure from England and Italy. We’re polishing off a defense argument.”

However, he admitted that, “there is a possibility that they ban him, because there are precedents,” but argued that, “we’re convinced that it was an absolutely casual play, because if Chiellini can show a scratch on one shoulder, Suarez can show a bruised and almost shut eye.

“If every player starts showing the injuries he suffers and they open inquiries for them everything will be way too complicated in the future. We’re going to use all the arguments possible so that Luis gets out in the best possible way,” Bilbi submitted.
