Police Bans 'BringBackOurGirls' Protests In Abuja

The Nigerian Police has placed a ban on all forms of protests relating to the abduction of some secondary school girls by some Boko Haram members on April 15, 2015 in Chibok, Borno State.

This came days after the ‘BringBackOurGirls’ campaigners, led by Oby Ezekwesili, were attacked by some alleged pro-government-sponsored hoodlums at the Freedom Park in Abuja. Few days after the attack, where chairs and bottles were reportedly used by the pro-government thugs on the peaceful demonstrators, the park was closed.

On Monday, the Abuja Police Commissioner, Joseph Mbu, announced that no protest demanding the release of the schoolgirls should hold in the nation’s capital city.

Some days ago, the President, in a speech read by the FCT Minister of State, told the protesters to direct their anger at the deadly Boko Haram sect in Borno, and not his government sitting in Abuja.

The international communities have criticised the Nigerian government for its slow response in the rescue of the kidnapped girls.

The Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, had last week alleged that the All Progressives Congress, APC, was sponsoring the protest against the Nigerian government.
