Minister Blames Victims For Recruitment Tragedy

Nigeria’s Interior Minister, Abba Moro, on Saturday, said that those who died in Saturday’s stampede across the country during the Nigeria Immigration Service aptitude test should be blamed for their untimely death because of their “impatience”.
Moro made this disclosure in Jos, Plateau State, while reacting to the unfortunate incident, which claimed the lives of over a dozen applicants in Abuja, Benin and Port Harcourt.

“The applicants lost their lives due to impatience, they did not follow the laid down procedures spelt out to them before the exercise. Many of them jumped through the fences of affected centres and did not conduct themselves in an orderly manner to make the exercise a smooth one. This caused stampede and made the environment insecure,” Moro explained.

Speaking further on the issue, the Minister noted that about 520,000 people entered for the available 4,556 slots.

Moro also said that his ministry would look into the incident to avoid such from happening again in the future.

Minister Abba Moro. With all due respect. The dead must not be blamed. Nigeria as a whole should learn to do things in an orderly manner. If u had appointed security gaurds to monitor the safe arrivals of the applicants, the stampede would have been prevented. Pls be careful next time. The souls dying every day in Nigeria is a bad omen. I rebuke every blood sucking demons. May their innocent souls rest in peace.

    1. Even if there was disorderliness it is possible some of the dead might have been orderly and just victims of a bad situation so blaming the dead when we were not there when the incident occurred is most insensitive and insulting both to the dead and injured and the plight of the common, suffering and unemployed youth. Can you imagine the number that turned out for the few available slot??? That statement shows insensitivity on the part of government and her officials who wallow in plenty to the suffering of the people they are supposed to serve.
