Diezani Becomes OPEC President

Nigeria’s Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Allison-Madueke, has been elected as President of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, OPEC.

Diezani becomes the first female to be elected into that position.

She was elected on Thursday at the 166th ordinary meeting of OPEC in Vienna, Austria.

Diezani now replaces Libya’s Vice Prime Minister for Corporations, Abdourhman Atahar Al-Ahirish, as the Organisation’s boss.

She was before now the alternate president of OPEC.

In recent times, the prices of oil has dwindled in the international market. There are expectations that the new president of OPEC will make her priority be bringing stability in the prices of oil.
