Liberian With Ebola Virus Dies In Lagos

The Nigerian government has informed the Liberian Embassy that its citizen believed to be suffering from the deadly Ebola virus has died in Lagos.

The message was relayed to the Liberian government on Friday morning by the Nigerian Embassy.

The victim, Patrick Sawyer, a WASH consultant at the Ministry of Finance, was quarantined on Sunday shortly after he arrived Lagos.

On Thursday, the Lagos State government health officials told the media that the deceased was being tested for the deadly Ebola virus.

A Liberian government official, who spoke under anonymity, confirmed Sawyer’s death on Friday morning.

Ebola’s outbreak was first recorded in February 2014 and has killed about 632 people across Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. Sawyer’s death is the first in Nigeria.
