ASUU Hails FG Over Payment Of Members' Salary Arrears

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has commended the Federal Government for paying the arrears of its members. Few weeks ago, the union ended its five-month-old strike action, which crippled the tertiary educational system in the country.

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, in Ibadan, Oyo State on Thursday, the Chairman of ASUU, University of Ibadan chapter, Dr Segun Ajiboye, described FG’s action as a good and commendable gesture.

“It is encouraging that the salary arrears have been paid to members, and I believe this cuts across board,” Ajiboye stated, adding that, “right now, members are ready to go back to work.”

He, however, expressed the fears of the union over the sincerity of the FG in fulfilling it promises. “We expect [the] government to be sincere in fulfilling other aspects of the MOU’,” Ajiboye said.
