Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has reacted to the recent beheading of a Christian woman in Kano by some Islamic fundamentalists.
Few days ago, some youths in Kano killed a woman and cut off her head, parading it on the streets of the ancient city.
The victim was alleged to have blasphemed Prophet Mohammed, a revered figure in Islam.
But since the incident occurred, government officials had kept sealed lips on the issue, sparking criticisms from Nigerians, both home and abroad.
However, on Saturday morning, the Senate President condemned the act, describing it as barbaric.
Saraki vowed that the Senate will look into the issue and work with the Kano State Government to punish those behind it.
“I have read tweets, Facebook posts and news of a barbaric incident that allegedly happened in Kano.
“Nigerian Senate will work with Kano State government and law enforcement agencies to get to the bottom of this and make sure justice is served and this doesn’t happen again,” the Senate President posted on his Facebook page.
The Kano incident occurred days after a Christian man was beaten to death in Niger State for the same alleged offence.
