Former Head of the Interim National Government, Ernest Shonekan, has been commended by President Muhammadu Buhari on his 80th birthday.
Buhari, in a statement issued on Monday by one of his spokesman, Garba Shehu, hailed the immense contribution of the elder statesman to the peace and unity of Nigeria.
The President said Shonekan has exemplified himself as an accomplished administrator, astute businessman and patriot who have helped in national development.
Buhari was quoted to have said he believes that the historic role played by the octogenarian in forging and maintaining the unity of Nigeria will continue to endear him to many.
He assured that his administration would continue look forward to his fatherly counsel and advice on how to move the nation forward.
Buhari prays that God Almighty will grant Shonekan more years of good health and happiness to see the Nigeria of our dreams.
