Ex-Militants Talk Tough: Give GEJ One Month To Pay Allowance Or…

If the threat given to the Presidency by a faction of some ex-militants in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria is anything to go by, then trouble looms in the region as there might be a resumption of the activities of the group in the region.

This is because the group has handed a one-month ultimatum to President Jonathan to pay their allowance or risk another series of crisis in the oil rich region.

In a meeting in Delta State with the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, Kingsley Kuku, the former militants submitted that funds meant for them have not been released and asked the government to do so within a month.

The repentant militants, speaking in Ughelli, also demanded that the leaders’ entrepreneurship training is yet to be implemented. They noted that the leaders of the camps were not duly notified of some members sent on training by the amnesty office, a move they are not happy with.

They warned that such be stopped by the government and asked that leaders of the camps be carried along in every dealings involving their members.

Owonama Edward and Charles Akatakpo, two of the group leaders present at the meeting on Monday, spoke on behalf of the ex-militants.
