Aproko247 has learnt that the absence of the judge handling the trial of alleged abductor of 14-year-old Ese Oruru, Yunusa Dahiru, also known as Yellow, stalled it on Thursday, June 2, 2016.
The matter is presently before Justice Aliya Nganjiwa of the Federal High Court in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
Ese was allegedly kidnapped by Yunusa in August 2015 and taken to Kano, where she was reportedly showed the family way by her abductor and converted to Islam without the consent of the girl’s parents.
The teenager’s mother cried out and the matter got the attention of Nigerians after a social media campaign on it.
Yunusa is standing trial on five counts of criminal abduction, illicit $ex, $exual exploitation and unlawful carnal knowledge of a minor, Ese.
On Thursday, the court did not sit because of the absence of the trial judge, who was reportedly away for a meeting.
Several people stormed the court on Thursday waiting for the commencement of the trial, but were disappointed when they learnt the court would no longer be sitting on the matter today.
The case will now be heard on Monday, July 6, 2016.
Last week, Ese was delivered of a baby girl at the Bayelsa State Government House Clinic, Yenagoa.
