Rashidi Yekini Foundation Gets NFF Backing

The Rashidi Yekini Foundation, a non-governmental organization set up by the two children of the late Nigerian striker, has received a boost with the promise of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, to support it.

First Vice President of the Federation, Seyi Akinwunmi, disclosed in Lagos at the weekend that the NFF will “provide a solid base and support for the Foundation.”

Akinwunmi, who met with Yemisi and Omoyemi Yekini, the two children of the late footballer, described the Foundation as “a noble objective” that “deserves commendation”.

The Lagos State Football Association Chairman, who met the girls at his office in Lagos, noted that “The NFF is truly impressed that you children of late Yekini have come up with this great idea.”

He said “[Rashidi] Yekini remains a Nigeria legend for all time” and advised the children to “allow the Foundation to be run by professionals.”

Also, Akinwunmi promised to take up payment of the school fees of Omoyemi Yekini, who is studying English at the University if Ilorin.

Earlier, Yemisi, who is a student of cinematography at Leicester University, United Kingdom, requested the NFF to help with materials that tell the story of her father’s marvelous contributions to Nigeria football while representing fatherland.

These, she said, would be used to set up a Rashidi Yekini Museum in his home in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Yekini scored 37 goals for the Super Eagles in an international career that spanned 15 years.
