2 Jailed For Stealing Bible In Lagos

For stealing a Holy Bible from a man returning from fellowship, two men have found themselves in prison, where they will live for the next 60 days.

Augustine Victor, 28 and Richard Ejiofor, 20, were convicted at the Lagos Magistrate’s court in Lagos on Monday by presiding magistrate, Mrs J.O.E Adeyemi without an option of fine.

They were charged before the court for conspiracy and stealing under the criminal code.

It was reported by PM News that the two convicts attacked one Mike John at Igbo-Elerin junction along Badagary express in Ojo local government.

They saw him with a bag and thought it contained money, but unknown to them, it was only containing the Bible.

It was said that the two men forcefully took away the victim’s BlackBerry and wrist watch, but before they could escape with the items, the police on patrol, who saw what happened, arrested them and took them to the station where they were detained.

The items were also recovered from them as exhibits.

At the station, they confessed that they suspected that it was money that was in the bag and explained that they did not intend to steal the Bible.

When the matter came up, the prosecutor, Ishaku Babaji, during the court proceedings, explained how the suspects were arrested by the police at Okokomaiko division.

He urged the court to sentence them accordingly to serve as deterrent to others who might want to commit similar offence.

The court found them guilty as charged and sentenced them accordingly.
