Alleged Perjury: Aluko Loses Bid To Stop Arrest

Former Secretary of the Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Temitope Aluko, has lost his attempt to halt his arrest to answer allegation of perjury against him.

In February 2016, Aluko confessed on a live television that the 2014 governorship election in Ekiti State, which produced Ayodele Fayose as winner, was rigged.

This was against his first stand at the election tribunal, where he swore that the poll was not rigged, but free, fair and credible.

Days after his national television confession, the state government got an injunction from a Magistrate Court in Ado Ekiti for his arrest and prosecution for perjury.

At the hearing on Wednesday, Aluko’s motion was struck out.

The Chief Magistrate, Soji Adegboye, described Aluko’s application as a mere “academic exercise, time wasting and abuse of court process”.
