The lecturer in the Kaduna State University, KASU, Dr John Danfulani, who was arrested by police in Kaduna over his Facebook post, has been denied bail.
Magistrate Awwal Musa, during the ruling, said the police was empowered to protect, investigate and carry out the duty assigned to them, hence the court cannot deny them their power.
According to him, the police was yet to conclude their investigation, and as such, cannot order the release of Danfulani from police custody. He ordered that further investigation must be concluded latest by Monday, February 1, 2016.
Danfulani was nabbed for allegedly posting inciting and hateful statements on social media against the people of northern Nigeria, thereby, capable of causing breakdown of law and order in northern Nigeria and other parts of the country.
The police said this is contrary to section 417 and 418 of the penal code of northern Nigeria.
