Last Sunday, members of a Celestial Church of Christ on Unity Street in Abule-Egba, Lagos, were left in shock when their pastor informed them that God spoke to him to set one of them ablaze to show His might.
One of them identified as Madam Abosede, who agreed to be used to ‘confirm’ that God was indeed in their midst, as their pastor made them to believe, is languishing in pain because of this.
What was meant to end like the pious Jewish youths in the Bible, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, has turned very awry and pathetic.
It was learnt that the sacrificial lamb was burnt beyond recognition and other members who could not believe their eyes, quickly left the church so as not to become the next victim.
According to the Nation, the man of God claimed he “heard the voice (of God) clearly (to burn the member alive), but I don’t know what happened after we set fire on her. God has been speaking to me since and it has been working, so I wonder why now.”
On the part of Madam Abosede, she explained that, “Our prophet said the spirit of God whispered to him that I would not burn if he sets me on fire. When I came out, they poured kerosene on my body and set me ablaze. But, unfortunately, I was burnt beyond recognition and before the other church members could get water, the deed had already been done.”
