PDP Backs Ban On Protests In Rivers

nyesom wike
Chairman of the Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Felix Obuah, has commended the ban on street protests by Governor Nyesom Wike.

Obuah described the move as timely and necessary because some groups wanted to hide under the guise of freedom of expression and speech to cause commotions in the state.

According to the statement issued by Obuah’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Jerry Needam, the ban became imperative in view of the possible consequences of such recurring protests without any response by the All Progressives Congress, APC-led federal government.

Oduah further described Wike as a true and patriotic Nigerian who has contributed and also promoted peaceful co-existence of all Nigerians in the state.

The party boss said the call by the “APC for which they tended to blame Wike, demanding that all protesters should be confined to their territorial boundaries is to say the least, discriminatory, divisive and insulting and, not acceptable to a broad hearted and accommodating Wike.”

According to him, the governor’s “ban on the street protests is therefore the best approach to the issue, since the onus lies on the APC-led federal government to lead and chart a path for all to follow without rancour and bitterness as one united people of Nigeria.”
